we’re nearly 2 weeks out from one of my favorite ‘holidays’…not that i need an excuse to love on my crew, but it certainly is fun spread some extra love! liquid watercolors has been my JAM lately and this simple addition that you have in your pantry makes for the coolest effect! the kids can all do it on their own and we now have heart garland throughout the playroom!
i finally got some water color paper on amazon last week and it’s a total game changer! it’s thicker and allows for brighter more vibrant colors! i’ve also been asked about the liquid watercolors… i love them and we use them a ton. if you only have standard water colors, just add a bit of water… you want the color to be vibrant but very liquid-y!
unique watercolor valentine’s day salt hearts
materials needed
watercolor paper
paintbrushes
liquid watercolor
salt {bigger crystals make the best effect but even table salt will work}
trays {not necessary but watercolor will soak into a wood table!}
process
1. cut out heart shapes… these can be done large to be framed or smaller for individual valentine’s day cards!
2. using liquid watercolors + paintbrush, paint the hearts, heavily saturating the paper. you want to move fairly quickly because you don’t want the paint to dry before the next step!
3. sprinkle the salt on the wet paint {i quickly add more paint to the areas that have dried}. LESS IS MORE!!! do not add too much salt or you won’t get the cool effect!
4. let paint dry!
5. after the paint is dry, shake off and gently tap old salt. some will stay…that leaves the glitter effect!
6. you can hang as decoration, punch holes + string for garland or make into personal valentine’s!
