a day in the life | 3 under 3

it’s been 1.5 years since i did one of these posts and i can’t believe it because it’s one of my favs to look back on…how how much as changed since then! ! i always love to see what other mama’s days look like and often times find myself adopting a thing or two from seeing someone else’s schedule!
let me preface all of this that each day looks a little bit differently for us…we have days for therapy, play dates with friends, days where workouts are at night and some weeks my mom + stepdad or aunt ebby watches the kids for a day. but…here’s the gist! a whole lot of unglamorous and unstaged pictures to document our day!

4:45am… up and at em. i hook up my pump before i get in the car and pump on my way to the gym. a fellow twin mama and i have gotten into the early morning workout routine and while i always dread my alarm going off…it always feels SO good when it’s done! we do spinning, tabata and TRX around 530-615am and it kicks my butt.
i usually walk in the door and chat with zach for maybe 5 minutes before he’s walking out by 645.

i usually will hop in for a super quick shower, blow dry the sweat out of my hair, throw on some clothes and try to cram in as much as humanly possible before the littles are up.

COFFEE. always coffee at this point…then i try to get the kids milk/breakfast ready, unload the dishwasher, throw in a load of laundry if needed and then if i have time, pop open my computer and answer some emails if i can.

the girls usually come out to go potty around 740 and then try to come and play. i redirect them back into their room {until their light turns green which is at 8} with the threat of losing paw patrol if they come out again.

8am comes way too fast and the girls head right to the couch for a 15 minute paw patrol show with cheerios on the couch.

miller is up by now and i usually will nurse him on the couch with the girls, followed by a bottle {since i pumped + worked out already}. we’re wrapping up at the same time and everyone heads in for breakfast + chatting.

i always try to have an activity for them while i am getting the food on the table…this day it was dobbers {their favs!}. we talk about the plan for the day, tell stories and just chat about nothing and everything. honestly it’s my favorite time of the day with the crew.
we always have fruit + yogurt + 1 of the following: waffles + pb, toast + pb, oatmeal, or cereal + milk. kids pick.

we quickly throw on some new clothes after breakfast and are out the door to burn some energy. there’s a local gymnastics place that has toddler time and it is SO much fun and a great way to really burn some energy off. my mom often has my nephews so it makes for a super fun little play date as well! they end the time with story time and the kids are always sad to leave.

we head home in time for lunch and the girls usually have play time while i get lunch ready. we had another round of snow last week so they’ve been all about exploring and i actually let them play just outside the door {glass door so i could see them} while i got lunch on the table.
lunch is always easy…pb + honey, chicken nuggets, fish sticks, homemade lunchables, or mac n cheese.

after lunch, it’s a little bit more playing before naps… i usually nurse mills one more time to top him off before naps

at any given time if you show up at my door unannounced, someone will likely be naked…they get it from their daddy.

i’ve got the routine down now so that all 3 babes are usually down from 2-4ish.. and i’m typically cleaning up the tornado that occurred from lunch to naps. how our house becomes the disaster that it does in a matter of 2 hours is beyond me…but it does.

zach’s usually getting home around the time everyone gets up. miller is usually first and i nurse him before some 1:1 play time.

the girls usually trickle out and after going potty, they finish the other 15 minutes of their paw patrol as long as they stayed in bed during naps.

it’s then time for another activity… painting, stringing beads, legos or just play time… they get to pick, but they’ve been pretty obsessive about these dobbers!

zach’s usually in charge of play time while i get dinner ready and their favorite is to go outside to play…he was busy with mills so i was on outside duty and the girls were still having a blast with the snow! it clearly is almost gone but they’re all about it!

annnnd boo boo’s and sympathy boo-boos…they just started this and i find it rather endearing.

it’s dinner time! i usually have dinner on the table by 6 but we played outside a bit too long.. they’re the biggest helpers and they love to help stir and are constantly asking to be on top of the counter while i cook.

it’s dinner time, then baths for all by 7 and this squeaky clean little monkey is the first one out. he usually helps me get dishes to the sink before it’s time for the bedtime shuffle.

i nurse mills then top him off with a bottle while zach wraps up bed time routine with the girls…brushing teeth and getting books started. mills and i join at the end for kisses and good night hugs.

we’re at the stage where good nights take like.. hours and bed time is put off by 1,000 kisses, drinks of water, potty breaks, prayers, more kisses and more of who knows what….i try not to get frustrated because i know it won’t be long before they won’t need us…but good golly it takes forever!

after the kids are in bed…it’s THIS. sometimes we tag team. sometimes i tackle dishes and zach cleans up and more often than not, zach’s on dish duty while i am cleaning the rest of the house, or if i have deadlines coming up, working on this little space. we usually find ourselves on the couch by 9:30 to take 5 seconds to breathe and are in bed by 10:30…usually passing out face first.

that’s about it! we’re so busy with 3 under 3, it feels like and running around with our heads cut off but honestly, i live for these days. a whole lot of nothing, a whole lot playing and just doing life!

  1. I’ve read many articles lately about the end results (teen and adulthood) of kids who are on schedules and those kids who are taught manners. You are SO on the right track Momma! ❤️🐝🐰🐾
