mama’s daily beauty routine | hair food

over the years, and more specifically after becoming ‘mama’, my daily beauty routine has changed so much… i’m more aware + cautious about the ingredients in the products i use and i rely on a handful of quality products that make my life easier. after a handful of videos on instagram, i’ve had so many questions about whether i have extensions {the answer is no!} and the products i’ve been using on my hair. it’s been a while since i’ve updated what i use and now is the perfect time to introduce some of my new loves as well as some of my trusty go-to ones!

shampoo + conditioner

// hair food \\
my routine starts in the shower and a few weeks ago i was introduced to my newest shampoo + conditioner love, hair food! hair food believes what you put on yourself is as important as what you eat…inspired by clean, simple, kitchen-crafted recipes with everything you want and none of things you don’t.

no sulfates. no parabéns. no dyes. no compromises.

while i’m not someone who washes their hair everyday {hellllo, dry shampoo…my fav is below!} i want something that is lightweight yet still nourishing to leave my hair manageable with body + bounce.
conveniently found at kroger, you can try out any or all of the collections including:
MOISTURE with manuka honey + apricot
PURIFYING with tea tree + lavender water
NOURISHING with coconut milk + chai spice
SMOOTH with avocado + argan oil

i usually try to get ready before the little feet all coming running down the hall but these days i typically have at least 2 little girls sitting on the counter watching and digging through my makeup bag and wanting to help do my hair.
after the shower, i use a variety of products to get some volume + hold in my hair. i have a lot of hair but it is extremely fine and does not hold curl at all. i’ve done a lot of trial and error over the last couple of years and finally found a good combo i love.

styling products {wet hair}

// guts 10 volume spray foam \\  OR  // moroccan oil volumizing mousse \\
i have tried a lot of products that claim to be volumizing and every single time, i go back to these two. from short to long hair {i’ve had it all}, i need something that i can use a lot of that won’t weigh down my hair or feel gross after blowdrying. i use both of these products on towel dried hair focusing mainly on my roots.

// living proof phD 5 in 1 styling treatment \\  OR  // lanza foundation mousse \\
i had never used a foundation product and two words: game changer. this has been my biggest change in being able to get some hold out of my curls without being right back to my stick straight hair…and making styles last a couple of days. a little goes a long way with the living proof so start small…whereas i can use a bit more of the lanza. i use both products on the body part of my hair {i just stay away from my roots} all the way down to the ends.

styling products {finishing touches}

// sexy hair thermal protection hairspray \\
it’s taken be awhile to find a heat protection spray that i like but with using temps of 450 degrees on my hair, protecting it is a MUST! i recently started using this sexy hair protection spray and like that it is an aerosol, so i feel like i get better coverage. i always run a brush through after spraying, but before using my wand to take the stiffness out of my hair.

// oribe dry texturizing spray \\
i ordered this after seeing one of my favorite hair bloggers rave about it and i was reeeeal hesitant because of the price but goodness gracious it’s my fav. i said before, i have super fine hair so i struggle to get the volume i want. this has been the perfect touch to adding the volume i like in the body of my hair and also provides texture + a little hold!

// living proof phd dry shampoo \\
hands down my favorite product ever. i try to stock up when i can find it as a BOGO {on sale right now!} because i use it almost every day of my life. the smell is perfection and i love that it adds texture + hold to the hair. it’s a must-have for any braids and i even spray it on freshly clean hair to go a bit longer between washes! spray it on the roots all over {i usually just do crown and around my face}, wait 30 seconds or so then i flip over and use my fingers to shake + massage into the scalp.

// redken quick dry hair spray \\
on sale for $13 {reg. 20}, a little goes a long way and i use this at the very end after i’ve brushed out my cooled curls! i also use this on miller’s hair to set after his hair clay! it dries instantly and isn’t sticky!
