our homeschool room reveal

we turned our craft room / home office into a homeschool room keeping the vintage industrial farmhouse vibe and bringing nature in throughout our setup for our kindergarten + 2nd grade classroom!

homeschool 2020

we are 2.5 weeks into our decision homeschool and while this wasn’t in the original plans, much like the rest of the country, we quickly were thrown into the homeschool realm and wanted to create a dedicated space for our learning. while you absolutely don’t need a full room to be able to homeschool, i am blessed to have the opportunity to welcome 2 of my nephews into our daily routine so with 5 school-aged kids 7 and under {plus a baby!}, i knew i needed a little more structure.

you can read more about our homeschool schedule here!

our homeschool room

we have 1 preschooler, 3 kindergartners and a 2nd grader…plus the teeny tornado cutie patootie who basically runs the school 😉 i wanted a space that each kiddo could sit and while we only do a portion of our day at the table, i felt it was important to have a good-sized table for activities we needed. there are times when my desk is utilized as well as the floor space! the half-circle table is being utilized for nature finds…currently housing our 2 caterpillars {one that has turned into a cocoon!} with magnifying glasses as well as some beautiful art prints.

these vintage prints i found from blue moon patent prints bring in the vintage farmhouse style that i wanted to stay true to as well as bringing beautiful art and nature naturally into the environment.

you can find our reusable butterfly garden {with a mail in card for live caterpillars, the perfect hands-on educational activity, which lets you care for live insects as they undergo metamorphosis!} here!

while the table still needs to be painted {a class project that will eventually happen!}, this corner is the cornerstone to our ‘homeschool room’. the chalkboard turned out beautifully, probably better than i imagined and gets a ton of use… well worth the super cheap {think like $30!} it took to make this large chalkboard! you can see more of the process over on instagram here!

another favorite addition to our homeschool room is this vintage alphabet hanging canvas . . a must-have for an early childhood room, our crew references the letters on a daily basis and i love the attention to detail! use code: SAVE10 for 10% off your order at red barn canvas!

homeschool room organization ideas

organization has been key for me! these cube storage systems have been a lifesaver.. i use these cubes, these wire baskets and these cube organizers.

if you saw our half bathroom renovation, you know how much i love the gas pipe shelving, so of course i had zach install some in this room as well! while it serves for a great space for decor, it also holds binders, curriculum books and nature finds!

homeschool room ideas small spaces

we also use this space for our ‘morning circle’ .. the inner early childhood teacher in me simply can’t let go of the morning songs, calendar lessons and all the learning that goes along with it! math manipulative and nature finds can also be found in this area along with all of our supplies.

on the other side of the room is the ‘home office’ space that i still wanted to be my space. while the 2nd grader will hang here for a little less distraction from the crazy kindergartners, it’s also where i call my home base.

‘the most important work you will ever do will be within the walls of your home’
i found hoosier farmhouse on etsy a few months ago and not only do i need about 1 of everything in her shop, but this sign spoke to my soul. with so much going on around us right now, i wanted a daily reminder that what we’re doing here within the walls of our own home is the most important work i will ever do. it’s a beautiful reminder of the blessing it is to be able to homeschool these babes.

on this side of the room, i wanted to add a few personal touches so when i scoured etsy and found these beautiful family name personalized stamped books from trending home designs, i knew i wanted them on our shelves. how cute would they be for a gift this holiday season?! i paired them with these farmhouse beads for some more detail plus a few of my favorite plants and have loved how it’s turned out.

you can find the arch mirror here, the cabinet here, and desk here!

  1. This is so cute! Do you have info on the calendar hanging on the wall? How you made it? Or where did you buy it? The educational one…?

    1. Hi! I used a dry erase calendar from Home Goods and then used sticky tack for the months/days from an educational store… I’ve seen the calendar packs at Target though too! <3
